How to Unleash Your Innate Healing Ability

Rid Your Home of Toxins – NaPodPoMo

Indoor air quality is important. Think of how much time you and your family spend in your home. Homes can have some of the poorest air quality though. That’s because of products used in the home that contain toxins. Fragrances and toxins in your cleaners contribute to poor indoor air quality, as do scented candles, air fresheners, and especially plug ins.

Most of these products contain some type of fragrance chemical, and they’re all made up of volatile organic compounds, also known as VOCs. Things like benzene and other petroleum distillates. They’re toxins, and they’re in most of the products you use in your home, unless you make the effort to buy only fragrance free products.

You can read the label, but also watch out for words on the front that talk about the fresh, clean smell of the product. Those fragrances and scents are toxins,

And, they contribute to chronic inflammation, which leads to chronic stress, and ultimately to chronic health conditions. They can cause other problems too, such as asthma, migraines, neurological disorders, even cancer. Worst of all, they’re particularly harmful to the growing bodies of your children.

The products you use in your home contribute to the air quality, but worse is when they’re used to wash and dry your sheets. You and your family are breathing those toxic chemicals all night long. And here’s my big secret, you don’t really need them. Get yourself a couple of houseplants to help clear your air. Find a safer laundry detergent, one that isn’t made from petroleum distillates, and you’re one step closer to fresh smelling clothes and laundry.

Use vinegar in your rinse cycle and wool dryer balls in the dryer to safely soften your clothes. Start with your laundry, then work on eliminating other fragrance products in your home. It will greatly improve the indoor air quality.

The Environmental Working Group has an extensive database of products and their toxicity that is worth checking out. You can visit their site to look up the products you currently use and find alternatives. You can find them at ewg.org.
