How to Unleash Your Innate Healing Ability

Wearing Toxic Products – NaPodPoMo

Are you wearing toxic products? We breathe in toxins all day long. It’s a topic that is finally being talked about by more people. Toxins in the air have been a problem for me since I was 16. First, it was a single fragrance. Then it was all of them. Then it became any fragrance product in the home. And ultimately, it was every chemical out there. But the toxins that we wear can cause us the most problems because we never get away from them. Maybe you’re not aware of these toxins, but you need to be.

One of the biggest culprits is fragrance, whether it’s a perfume or cologne, or it’s a fragrance in a product you use because fragrances are in everything, your soaps, makeup, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, creams, deodorants, hair spray, other hair products, you name it, it’s got a fragrance in it.

Most people aren’t aware that they’re toxic though. That’s because they aren’t required to list the actual ingredients. They list simply the word fragrance. And they can because they tell the FDA that it’s a trade secret and they can’t tell what’s in it.

And the manufacturers don’t really want you to know what’s in there anyway. Mostly they contain volatile organic compounds, also known as VOCs. They’re things like benzene and other petroleum distillates. They’re used because they are VOCs and they help spread that fragrance through the air. But they’re also toxins.

And they contribute to chronic inflammation, which leads to chronic stress and ultimately to chronic health conditions. They can cause other problems, too. Asthma, migraines, neurological disorders, even cancer.

My tip? Find fragrance free products. They’re getting easier to find than in the past. Read your labels on your personal care products. If they have that word fragrance in them, don’t buy them. Because if they can’t reveal what that fragrance is, they’re hiding something.

That also includes that word masking fragrance. That’s actually a double whammy because the masking fragrance first still contains the chemicals but it’s there to hide another smell that might be even more noxious.

Clear the air you breathe all day long by ridding your personal care products of fragrances.

The Environmental Working Group has an extensive database of products and their toxicity that is worth checking out. They have a section devoted to personal care products that you can find at ewg.org/SkinDeep. Check it out.
